Australian side Newcastle Jets have signed former Sunderland and Leeds striker Michael Bridges. The 31-year old has joined the Jets for the remainder of the A-League season following a short spell with League One outfit MK Dons. Bridges has experience in the A-league having scored two goals in nine games during a six-month loan spell with Sydney FC in the 2007/08 season. And Bridges is relishing the chance to shine Down Under once more. He said: 'I was excited when I got the phone call to come out here because I was on my way to Portugal, and I actually did a U-turn to go home and pack a few more clothes to get out here. 'Obviously to team up again with (former Sydney coach) Branko (Culina) was one of the main issues as well to get over here with the Jets. 'To be in the Australian A-League again, I still felt like I could offer something and get up and running again.' Bridges admitted he enjoyed his time with Sydney but is looking forward to the relaxed atmosphere at Newcastle. 'I've been very, very impressed with the area and the people have made us feel really welcome,' he added. 'Obviously my time at Sydney, it was a bit hectic the lifestyle down there, so I've found since I've been up here that I love the place.' Bridges had a brief spell with the Tyneside Newcastle as well as playing for Bolton, Bristol City, Carlisle United and Hull City.
