Ferguson Switch Not A Done Deal

Shane Ferguson has already been capped by Northern Ireland, but the Republic of Ireland want to take him. Apparently there is a "FIFA loophole", but is it decent? Under the Good Friday Agreement, if a player eligible for Northern Ireland has an Irish passport he can play for the Republic providing he has not played a competitive fixture at international level. Ferguson’s solitary Northern Irish cap came in a friendly against Italy two years ago, the Londonderry player CAN play for Giovanni Trappatoni’s side. Ferguson: “I cannot really say much about it. “I am just focusing on my club football at the minute, and whatever happens with internationals is a bonus. “If I keep doing well for Newcastle, the rest will take care of itself. “I will have to train hard between now and the end of the season, and hopefully I will get another chance before the campaign ends. “It has been my best season at Newcastle so far. “Hopefully I can help us gain more good results.”
