Fans To March Against Ashley (Again!)

The Chronicle reports that protestors who took to the streets to rally against the Mike Ashley regime have vowed to march again.

Evening Chronicle: Angry Toon fans who came together under the name Time 4 Change to speak out against their beloved club’s current situation have told the Sunday Sun they don’t plan to rest on their laurels any time soon.

It comes after a week of unrest between the club and the local Press with the Sunday Sun and its sister titles the Chronicle and Journal banned from the media facilities at St James’ Park.

However, organisers behind Time 4 Change - which is a group made up of a number of different Newcastle United supporters’ groups – have backed the Sunday Sun’s “fair” coverage of the protest and claimed the club’s response was “unjustified”.

Time 4 Change’s Geoff Robinson, who has been a lifelong Magpies fan and is also a member of the Mike Ashley Out campaign, said the group aspire to march at every home game until the club take on board their concerns.

He said: “I don’t think it’s justified that they have banned you, it was a very fair write-up of the march.

“It’s definitely going to anger more and more fans.

“You’ve got to think of the older supporters who look for information on the club in the papers because a lot of them might not have the internet and they look forward to sitting down with their local paper in the morning or evening.”

The march before Newcastle’s clash with Liverpool last month saw around 300 supporters walk through the city streets.

And Geoff and his fellow campaigners are hoping to arrange something similar again soon despite the backlash from the club.

He said: “We want to actually continue marches for every game but it’s funding for it that is difficult. It was £252 just to insure it and the money is coming out of our own pockets to pay for everything.”

He added: “We’ve got pretty much all the fanzines and supporters’ groups involved and with what has happened this week with the local papers and the Newcastle United Supporters Trust being banned then we’re just going to get more and more backing.

“If there’s enough pressure put on him, it might spell the end for Mike Ashley.”

It was revealed on Friday that the Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) had become the latest group to find itself banned by the club they love.

The fans’ group was invited to be a permanent member of the Magpies Fans Forum.

But after a row over their coverage of the first meeting - which took place five weeks ago - it was barred from future events just two days ago.

“I just think Mr Ashley is killing the club.

“He is taking the heart and soul out of it and we are trying to get that back in there,” said Geoff.
