Despite their protests, the Football Association have told Newcastle United that no further action will be taken against Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong. De Jong made 'that tackle' that broke Hatem ben Arfa’s leg in two places. Officials from The FA have formally replied to Newcastle’s letter demanding ‘appropriate action to be taken against De Jong’ by insisting no punishment is possible against the Dutchman. According to The Telegraph a spokesman for the FA said, “We have responded to Newcastle and our position is that we have no jurisdiction to take retrospective action. FA Spokesman: "The basic premise of the laws of the game is that a referee makes a decision and there is no retrospective action permitted. The referee saw the incident, dealt with it at the time and we cannot take retrospective action.”
