Euro 2012 - Rooney To Be Unleashed!

17 June 2012 11:49
Wayne Rooney's re-integration into the England team began in earnest on Sunday.

Rooney arrived at their Hutnik Stadium base on the outskirts of Krakow this morning with the big question - who would partner him in their final Group D game in Donetsk.

Danny Welbeck appeared favourite to get the nod to play alongside his Manchester United team-mate, whose recall to the side after a two-game ban was never really in doubt, despite England taking four points from their matches against France and Sweden at Euro 2012.

That would almost certainly mean Andy Carroll, a scorer in the latter game on Friday, making way against co-hosts Ukraine.

Striker Andriy Shevchenko does not believe Ukraine should focus too much on the return of Rooney.

Shevchenko: "We will see what happens with Rooney. But this is a player who hasn't played for a month now.

"I know he's a very good player and someone who can change the team, but we'll see what happens if he plays.

"But the whole England team is very good, not just Rooney. They are most dangerous from set-pieces - corners and free-kicks. We will have to watch that."
