Erdinc Still To Discuss Personal Terms

25 July 2011 11:42
There were many who jumped the gun on Saturday claiming Newcastle had signed Turkey striker Mevlut Erdinc ... ... but the deal is not 'cut and dried' at this moment. Newcastle have agreed a £6.5million fee with Paris St Germain for the player, but he has yet to discuss personal terms, and the 24-year-old still wants to stay in France. Alan Pardew is still hopeful the player comes to Tyneside, but the striker has given no vibes at all - after weeks of negotiations - that he wants to make the move. I'm sorry to put a negative slant to this report, but doesn't this smack of the deals struck when we signed Marcelino and Albert Luque (pictured above)? Neither wanted to come to Newcastle, and when they signed we (the Toon fans) couldn't wait to see the back of them! Surely a player must WANT to come to Newcastle before we throw stupid money at him? Luque said: "I could not believe it. I told the chairman (Freddy Shepherd) that I was happy in Spain. "He told me to name a price, and I trebled my wages by saying 'give me £60,000 a week' ... and he said YES!"
