Enquiries For Ben Arfa - No Offers!

Hatem Ben Arfa has pledged his '100 per cent' commitment to Newcastle and revealed he rejected interest from other clubs this summer.

Well that isn't quite true.

He didn't "reject" anything because there was not one single offer put on the table.

Liverpool asked about him, as well as one French club, but that was the closest anyone came to an offer.

Liverpool hoped to offer Andy Carroll as part of a swap deal, but West Ham came up with hard cash for the former Toon striker, and that was as close as any deal came about.

The Magpies' maverick winger says he needs to focus on playing well for United on a regular basis before thoughts of moving to a bigger club enter his head.

But he is 27 now, and this season is probably the most important of his career.

He tells us "I can become a Lionel Messi", but he is older than the Barcalona legend and his record is well short - Messi has scored 320 goals in his career; Ben Arfa has scored 27.

Ben Arfa: "There were enquiries this summer, but what was important was to remain at Newcastle.

"The club has confidence in me.

"I need to gain a lot of experience here.

"Before thinking of anything bigger, I need to commit 100 per cent here."
