England doctors to check on Carroll

Andy Carroll will be assessed by England's medical staff with a groin injury threatening to ruin his chances of making his international debut against France on Wednesday. The 21-year-old Newcastle striker received his maiden call-up to Fabio Capello's squad but his involvement with the 24-man party could now be limited to less than a day after the injury he picked up in the 0-0 draw with Fulham. His club have confirmed on their official website the player is to report for duty where he will be looked at by the England team doctors. West Ham striker Carlton Cole has already been called up as cover for Carroll and Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor, who is also struggling with a knock picked up against Manchester United. Cole joins Carroll, Agbonlahor, Cardiff's Jay Bothroyd and Tottenham's Peter Crouch as the forwards in Capello's squad, with the Italian light on options with Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney and Bobby Zamora all out injured.
