Ellis Not On Pardew's Xmas Card List!

Ellis Short has risked turning tomorrow's North-east derby into a grudge match after he was overheard telling Newcastle boss Alan Pardew to "f*** off".

Sunderland owner Short was heard launching an astonishing verbal tirade towards Pardew before the North-east derby at the Stadium of Light in October.

The Daily Express has been told that just before kick-off, Pardew spotted Short and offered a handshake, but the American tycoon said: “Why don’t you just f*** off?”

Short, who fired manager Martin O’Neill last week from his home 7,000 miles away in Hawaii, felt Pardew was at fault after both managers squared up pitch-side during last year’s clashat St James’ Park.

While Pardew was prepared to accept the dugout exchange was a fairly normal confrontation and had been in the heat of an intense match, Short refused to take up the Newcastle manager’s handshake and instead shouted a four-letter tirade in front of amazed players from both sides and officials.

Short’s outburst astonished both Pardew and the Newcastle boardroom and his behaviour has cranked up the stakes for tomorrow’s derby.

Pardew said: “We are not far apart now and we will not be far apart at all if they win on Sunday. I genuinely think that we have asquad when fully fit which is stronger than theirs, but we need to prove that.

“We can’t wait for the derby and to have more than 150,000 people through the turnstiles at St James’ Park in seven days is a real testament to what we have at this football club.”
