Duff's move opens Newcastle door to Barton

DAMIEN DUFF was in London this morning to finalise his £4m move to Fulham, meaning that Newcastle United have been forced to recall Joey Barton to their starting line-up against Reading this evening. Barton, left out of last weeks 1-1 draw with West Brom after an alleged bust-up with team-mates, has been asked to play the wide role as the Magpies play a competitive game in front of their fans for the first time since Mays relegation to the Championship. But caretaker manager Chris Hughton has resisted the temptation to make further changes, with the rest of his team exactly the same to that which started at the Hawthorns, meaning goalkeeper Tim Krul is forced to sit on the bench. NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-4-2): Harper; R Taylor, Coloccini, S Taylor, Enrique; Barton, Smith, Nolan, Gutierrez; Carroll, Ameobi. Subs: Xisco, Geremi, LuaLua, Krul, Kadar, Ranger, Donaldson. READING (4-4-2): Federici; Rosenior, Pearce, Cisse, Bertrand; Church, Karacan, Davies, Kebe; Long, Tabb. Subs: Mills, Gunnarsson, Hunt, Harper, Robson-Kanu, Hamer, Sigurdsson.
