Duff desperate for Shearer appointment

Damien Duff is keeping his fingers crossed that Alan Shearer will eventually be appointed Newcastle manager. The 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international is convinced the former Magpies skipper, who took charge for the final eight games of last season, is the only man for the job. Duff said: "For me, it definitely has to be Alan Shearer. The eight weeks I had with him, I enjoyed them thoroughly. It was unfortunate we didn't stay up, but it was the most enjoyable eight weeks I have had." He added: "The training was great and there was proper professionalism and discipline at the club. I think discipline was lacking over the last three years, but he came in and changed things. "Anyone who does come in and buy the club, he should be the main man."
