Double Joy For Manchester

The bookies were not wrong, Man Utd won the Premiership on Saturday ... followed three hours later by Man City's FA Cup win over Stoke. Sir Alex Ferguson has defended his Manchester United team as worthy champions - but admitted this campaign does not compare with the 1999 treble-winning season. United have now won the championship more times that rivals Liverpool, an amazing achievement given in 1990 the score was 18-7. Sir Alex Ferguson: "It is not fair to say it's a bad Manchester United team or a bad league. "It is a tighter league, a harder league to win. "Any campaign has got blips for anyone. You have got to look at the league in general. "The treble season was something special. I don't think anyone will ever do it again. "We made a go at it, as a manager of the club, you have to try that. "But I didn't think it would happen. I thought we would get knocked out somewhere along the line. Fortunately it was the one you would want to win least of all because the Premier League and the Champions League are paramount. "It's not so much passing Liverpool. "That thing about knocking Liverpool off their perch, I don't think I actually said it, but it's more important that United are the best team in the country in terms of winning titles. "Same with the FA Cup. We have won it more times than everyone and now we have won the Premier League more times than anyone. Manchester City ended their long wait for silverware by beating Stoke 1-0 in the FA Cup final. Yaya Toure proved the matchwinner - just as he was in the semi-final against Manchester United - as he rammed home the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time to cap a memorable week in the Citizens' history. Roberto Mancini: "In England there are three competitions, the Premier League, Carling Cup and FA Cup. "We won the FA Cup. It is an important trophy. We need to improve more to do another step (win the title) but it was important to start to win because when you start to win, afterwards everything will be easier. "We want to try (to match United). We have got to the Champions League, that was our first target and we won the FA Cup. It is very important for this club."
