Donachie Wants More From Toon Youngster

James Tavernier's loan spell at Carlisle has been a big success in gaining experience ... but his performances could have been more consistent.

Newcastle reserve-team manager Willie Donachie believes the experience of playing regular first-team football for the Blues in League One has benefited the youngster.

Willie Donachie: “It’s been a fantastic experience for James which has benefited not only the player but both clubs too.

“Getting the chance to play League One football is just the sort of opportunity James needed. It’s good quality competitive football against older players and it’s really helped his development.

“I saw four or five of his games and what he needs to work on is his consistency, he was excellent in a couple but didn’t reach that level in the others.

"That’s what you often see in young players and it’s all part of the learning process.”
