Does Barton REALLY Need To Tell People How Good He Is?

Who was it who said "self praise is worthless"? And it's interesting to note the reaction to Joey Barton's comments that he is better than any other English midfielder in England. The BBC 'reporters' have dished out their own verdict on the former Man City player, suggesting he should let his feet do the talking. And I was talking to one ex-Newcastle superstar this week and he told me 'off the record': "Yes he's had a good season, but although Mr Barton is telling us how good he has played recently ... he wasn't so forth-coming when he was playing shite! He kept his gob shut." Alan Pardew claims Barton's chequered past had cost the Newcastle United midfielder a place in the England squad ... but suggesting Lampard is "past his best"; Barry is a "teachers pet" and Gerrard "is always injured" ... is hardly going to have players welcome him with open arms at the England training camp. Pardew: “If you're just looking at Joey this season, I think he deserves to get into the PFA team of the year. “I think probably if he'd burst onto the scene as a 20-year-old and played the football he has this season, he'd be in. But he has a past, and I think that plagues him somewhat. “He's the only one who can get rid of that by consistently doing what he's done this year. He's 28 now, and presumably he can go on until he's 34. So maybe, a couple of years down the line, he'll be in that team if he plays anything like he's done this year.”
