Darren Bent and Andy Carroll land football writers' awards

In one of the most lopsided votes in the 30-year history of the region's biggest football award, Bent was the number one choice of the majority of the North East's football writers. [LNB]Bent, who scored his first goal for his country last week, became Sunderland's record signing last summer when he joined the club from Tottenham. [LNB]The 26-year-old scored 24 goals for Steve Bruce's side but, in his one major disappointment at the end of his first season on Wearside, he missed out on a place in Fabio Capello's England World Cup squad. [LNB]However, that did not prevent him winning the award ahead of Carroll's Newcastle team-mate, Kevin Nolan.[LNB]Bent and Carroll, who was third in the senior player vote, will be presented with their awards at the annual dinner at the Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham on Sunday Dec 12.
