In addition to being a moderator and prolific poster on the Newcastle mad board, he also enjoyed visiting the boards of other clubs and engaging in “verbal banter” and “arguing the toss” with the supporters of other clubs. Dan’s philosophy on life was simple, “just follow your heart”. In his heart first place was held by his family, followed by football in general and in particular: NUFC, Glasgow Rangers, England and Scotland, and then his car which he also loved. Dan was also a regular visitor to to thetalk-toon chatroom. He often talked, amongst other things, about his wife and 4 young children whom he absolutely adored. He was a very proud dad when he took his son to his first Newcastle match and took great pride in telling us all about his day. In March 2007 he proudly announced that he and his wife were expecting a new addition to the family. He confided that although they already had 4 children he was overjoyed at the prospect of becoming a father again. As Dan is a twin himself, and was already the father of twins, we all relished winding him up that the “new addition” might actually be twins, triplets, quads etc. He was mortified at the thought saying that he couldn’t afford more than 7 new strips each year. For one week he was the happiest man on earth. Once again he came into the chatroom this time saying he had a very minor problem and wondered whether he should get it checked out. After visiting his doctor his joy soon turned to dismay in learning that he did in fact have Testicular Cancer and that it had spread a little. However the given prognosis was very good and he remained upbeat and positive and was determined to overcome what he considered to be a temporary setback in his happy life. During his treatment Dan continued to visit both the footymad message boards and the chatroom whenever he could. His sense of humour never left him and how we all laughed at his many humorous declarations he managed to make despite the natural fears he had. It was a tremendous shock for everyone who knew Dan to discover that only an extremely few short weeks after being diagnosed, he had taken a turn for the worse and devastatingly died on June 9th 2007.  Dan’s death affected family, friends and adversaries alike. He had so much to live for. R.I.P. Dan, you certainly left your stamp on this world. Your memory will be cherished forever.
