The 20-year-old initially struggled to make an impression after arriving from Melbourne Heart last summer, and was loaned out (with great success) to Bradford City.
Good will play in the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey this summer, which can only forward his career.
But the 6ft 2in defender is stuck in limbo - not having the power and strength to be a central defender; and too slow and laboured at full-back.
But he is still young, and I'm sure he sees his future at central defence, and will be working on the weights and learning from his hero Fabricio Coloccini.
We (at NU-Mad) watched him many times last season, and even at Bradford's level, he had his off days.
He is at least two years away from being considered for a regular central defence position, and perhaps another loan spell may help.
Curtis Good: “The biggest thing is to start well in pre-season with Newcastle and move a bit closer to the start of it all.
“Last year I came a month into it.
“I was in at the end of July so I felt I was behind after that.
“So this year I am looking forward to coming back refreshed after spending some time at home.”
“It is reassuring to get a few compliments from the manager. You just have to keep on doing that and progressing well.
“If the opportunity comes then I will be ready for it – hopefully as a centre-back.
“Going out on loan as a centre-back is difficult because you are normally only needed as an emergency.
“Playing for Bradford was a great experience for me – especially the Capital One Cup final.
“I wanted experience of first-team football and that’s what I got. It will really help me for next season. That’s what it is all about.
“You just want to be involved as much as you can.
“If you want to progress at Newcastle you are going to need that.
“I have my first season under my belt now. I am used to it.
“The first few months were hard but now I know about the city and people from here so it makes it easier for me.”
