Coloccini loses appeal

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini has lost his appeal against his red card in Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Everton.

Coloccini was dismissed for a lunge on Aaron Lennon in the second half and handed a three match ban, ruling him out of the north-east derby at Sunderland on Easter Sunday.

The FA announced in a short statement that an independent regulatory commission had rejected the Argentinian's claim, confirming his three-match ban will commence with immediate effect.

The news is another blow to Magpies boss John Carver who also has star striker Papiss Cisse serving a seven-match suspension for spitting at Jonny Evans in the home loss to Manchester United earlier this month.
