Fabricio Coloccini has committed himself to Newcastle's drive for an instant return to the Barclays Premier League. The 27-year-old Argentina defender, who scored the goal which took the Magpies back to the top of the Coca-Cola Championship at Cardiff on Sunday, was linked with a move away from St James' Park throughout the summer in the wake of relegation. However, while many of the club's bigger earners did depart, the £10million man remains on Tyneside and is determined to answer his critics. He told the club`s official website: "A lot of things were written in the newspapers about me over the summer saying I wanted to leave the club, but that was not true at all. "I am happy here and happy to help the club get back into the Premier League, so because of that, it was a great feeling to see my goal go in. "It was good to turn around and see the fans celebrating my goal. I thank them for sticking by us. They have been excellent with me and the team."
