Verdict: Alan Pardew secured a very good addition by signing Papiss Demba Cisse from Freiburg. The Senegalese forward pairing of Cisse and Ba has potential and Pardew will be happy to see both return early from the African Cup of Nations, following a poor campaign from Senegal. The Magpies are currently fifth in the Premier League and are hopeful of maintaining their position.
