Carver plans meeting with two fans

Newcastle head coach John Carver will welcome two disgruntled fans into his office on Friday insisting he does not want another 52,000 to follow them.

The 50-year-old was involved in a heated exchange with several supporters during Saturday's 3-2 Barclays Premier League defeat by Swansea at St James' Park, and later found himself at the centre of allegations that he has sworn at critics and invited one to see him after the game.

However, Carver, who was adamant he did not use foul or abusive language, responded by arranging a meeting with two of them at the training ground as he finalises his preparations for Saturday's vital trip to Leicester.

He said: "I've invited the two lads in, Thomas and Allen. They're coming for a cup of tea in my office tomorrow. I don't want 52,500 phone calls now wanting to come and see me because that would be very difficult!

"Its important I talk to the two lads and explain some of my actions. I don't have to, but I think it's important. I'm one of them - and I want them to see I can relate to them and give them a bit of time.

"It'll be interesting to see what they say, it won't all be me me me, it will be a two-way conversation. I'll tell them they sit in a very important part of the stadium near the technical area - it's a privileged area, to be quite honest. You see everything that goes on.

"It's important they try not to distract me from doing my job and they get behind the team.

"I'll show them a little of the preparation going into the game so they have some understanding - without giving away too much of the team - and the planning we put into the week.

"It's not to get them in to have a roll around the office. I'm happy to answer their questions and have a really good conversation and say, 'This is what we do'. I'm not one looking for sympathy but it's about getting them to understand better."

The defeat by the Swans was Newcastle's seventh in succession and they are now only five points clear of the drop zone, although Carver will be boosted this week by the return of defender Paul Dummett from injury and midfielder Moussa Sissoko from suspension.
