Carroll To Show Preston What They Missed

Andy Carroll was loaned to Preston North End in 2007, and he didn't have the best of times. He lost his head and was sent off against Scunthorpe and Preston washed their hands of him. The England Under-21 star only netted just once in Lilywhite colours, and they turned down the offer for him to extend his loan from January to the end of the season. He claims, by the end of his three-month stint in Lancashire, he was pleased to get back to Newcastle. Chris Hughton: “He’s a centre forward, and he’s still not the finished article. He still needs to develop his game. “We keep saying he’s a young one, but he’s scoring goals. At the moment, he’s answering any questions about his goalscoring ability. “He’ll need to keep working. What we have at the moment, even with Shola out, are four very good strikers. “With Leon Best, and Nile Ranger on the bench, there are options, and they’ll continue to keep pushing. “He’s got to be an all-round player. I’m really pleased he’s developing his game, and he’s a big threat for us. “He’s got a lot of football in front of him, but we need to supply the ammunition for him.”
