Campbell set for reserve run-out

Newcastle defender Sol Campbell will make his debut at the home of arch-rivals Sunderland on Tuesday night. The 35-year-old former England international has been named in a strong reserve party as he looks to put himself in contention for a return to Barclays Premier League action following his arrival on Tyneside. Campbell has spent the last few weeks working his way towards match fitness and will get a chance to test how far he has come at the Stadium of Light. He is one of several senior men in the second-string squad with Peter Lovenkrands, Ryan Taylor, Xisco, Nile Ranger and Tim Krul also in the running to play. Campbell joined the Magpies during pre-season following his marriage, and was some way behind the rest of his team-mates in terms of fitness as a result. Manager Chris Hughton has insisted he will not throw him into the first team until he is ready, and with Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson having so far performed well in a promising start to the campaign, there has been no need to take risks with the hugely experienced player.
