But the Newcastle midfielder hopes to feature in France's crucial final Euro 2012 qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday.
Having suffered the injury in the first half of France's 3-0 win, Cabaye re-emerged for the second half but lasted only another two minutes before being substituted.
The French can secure their ticket to Poland and Ukraine with a point against Bosnia and Herzegovina, who will pip them to top spot should they spring a surprise with victory in Paris.
Yohan Cabaye: "I hope I will be fit for Tuesday and that this game does not pass me by.
"My left ankle got stamped on. I didn't want to take the risk and came off.
"I will have tests, I don't know whether it is a sprain or a bad bruise but it was very painful and I couldn't carry on like that."
French coach Laurent Blanc: "He took a heavy blow on his ankle. Our Albanian friends shook us up well."
