Butt blow for Toon
Newcastle United have suffered a blow with the news that Nicky Butt will miss the start of the Championship season.
The former England international suffered a hand injury during Newcastle's 7-2 friendly victory over Darlington at the weekend.
Butt suffered a partial dislocation of his thumb and the club have now revealed that he needs an operation, which is likely to sideline him for four weeks.
A club statement said: "Newcastle United can confirm that Nicky Butt requires an operation on the hand injury sustained during Saturday's 7-2 victory at Darlington."
Newcastle open their season at West Bromwich Albion on 8th August.
