A North East businessman is planning to launch a £150million takeover bid for Newcastle United, according to a report. Rick Parkinson, who has made much of his cash from the textiles industry, is said to have joined forces with four other entrepreneurs and is preparing to make a formal offer for United. The Northumberland-based multi-millionaire's consortium is willing to pay £90million to current owner Mike Ashley, plus £30million for transfers and the same amount again for restructuring. On Thursday, The Profitable Group confirmed its interest in buying Newcastle, although it stated that any potential bid is at an early stage. 'Three or four' groups are said to be in the race to buy the Tyneside club, with Ashley seeking a £100million asking price.
