Businessman plans Magpies bid

A north-east businessman is planning to launch a ¦pound;150million takeover bid for Newcastle. Rick Parkinson, who has made much of his cash from the textiles industry, has joined forces with four other entrepreneurs and is preparing to make a formal offer for United. The Northumberland-based multi-millionaire's consortium is willing to pay £90million to current owner Mike Ashley, plus £30million for transfers and the same amount again for restructuring.
