Burnley Like Toon? Not With Laws As Manager!
In MY opinion ... Burnley were relegated the day they made Brian Laws manager! As for them "doing a Newcastle and bouncing back" ... NO CHANCE! Burnley's veteran midfielder Graham Alexander: “You can’t get sucked into thinking ‘we’ve been in the Premiership for a year, all of a sudden we’re too good for the Championship’. “If you think you are going to go down and walk it and take it for granted that it’s going to happen for you then you’re going to get bitten. “We have got to go there and be determined to look to improve as players, both individually and as a team. “For young and old it is going to be a tough season, but if we approach it right mentally, which hopefully we will, I can definitely see us achieving what we want to achieve. “The aim is promotion, whether it’s finishing first, second or in the play-offs. We’ve done it before and I think we’ve got as good a team now. “If we get the right players in during the summer and keep the right ones here we have got a great chance.” Burnley insist Brian Laws' position as manager is "not under threat". Reports have suggested the Clarets may have been considering replacing Laws, who took over from Owen Coyle in January. However, the club made a statement on Wednesday morning refuting those claims. "Contrary to inaccurate local and national media speculation, the Burnley Football Club board of directors wish to make it clear that Brian Laws' position as first-team manager is not under threat," said the statement. "Laws this morning met with club chairman Barry Kilby and operational director Brendan Flood to plan next season's player recruitment and budget, with a view to giving the club the best chance of returning to the Premier League. "Brian Laws has two years remaining on the contract he signed in January 2010."
