Brighton V Newcastle at Amex Stadium : Match Preview

LuaLua poised for Magpies reunion Kazenga LuaLua could return from injury to face his former club when Brighton host Newcastle in the FA Cup fourth round.

LuaLua, who joined the Seagulls permanently in November following three successful loan spells on the south coast, is back in training having spent three weeks out with a hamstring problem. Fellow winger Craig Noone is also close to returning from a hamstring injury and Spanish midfielder Vicente Rodriguez could make his first appearance since mid-October following a thigh problem. But full-back Marcos Painter misses out after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury just six minutes into his comeback at Peterborough on Saturday. Defender Tommy Elphick (Achilles) and midfielder Gary Dicker (broken leg) are still recovering from long-term injuries.

Tim Krul admits he cannot believe how Newcastle have gone 43 years without winning a major trophy. The 23-year-old Holland international has spent the last six and a half years on Tyneside watching a club he regards as one of the biggest in English football fail to end a drought which dates back to the 1969 European Fairs Cup triumph. They will resume their quest for silverware when they head for Brighton with Krul convinced they can make an impact in the competition. Asked if he was surprised at the Magpies lack of silverware in recent years, he said: "Yes, because it's got all the attributes - the stadium, the fans... "If you see the clubs who have won prizes, I can't see why we can't get to the FA Cup final or push on as a top-six team. "I have said it for years now, that Newcastle has got everything to be one of the top teams and we are showing that this season." Krul knows all about the magic of the FA Cup, not just from watching on television as a child back in Holland, but having experienced a giant-killing act at first hand. He was between the posts last season when Alan Pardew's men travelled to League Two Stevenage in the third round and emerged on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

However, the former Den Haag man is in no mood to make the fourth round headlines this time around as Newcastle attempt to bounce back from last weekend's 5-2 Barclays Premier League drubbing at Fulham. He said: "We have had it before. We just have to be at it from the beginning. "They will be raring to go - for them, it's a massive game. Newcastle coming to their stadium is huge. "But we will be out there to prove ourselves again and get back to winning ways. "We have seen some clips of them and the stadium, the pitch, the facilities are there, there are no complaints there, there are no excuses, so we will be ready." Skipper Fabricio Coloccini is a doubt after he tweaked his groin in training on Thursday. Strikers Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse remain on African Nations Cup duty with Senegal but are expected to return early next week.
