Boss hails matchwinner Coloccini

Newcastle caretaker manager Chris Hughton was full of praise for Argentinian defender Fabricio Coloccini after his winner at Cardiff. Coloccini scored his first goal for the Magpies as they made it five straight league wins and moved back to the top of the Coca-Cola Championship. He played a part in the build-up and finished with a powerful header past David Marshall in the 18th minute for the only goal. Cardiff went on to dominate for long spells but could not find a way through and Hughton`s men, who finished with 10 men following the dismissal of Alan Smith at the death, held on to move two points clear at the summit. Hughton told the club`s official website: "It was a great header but he also did very well on the first phase. Nile Ranger has climbed ever so well [to connect with Taylor`s corner] but it`s Colo that has got onto the first ball, played it out wide and got back into the box and got himself on the end of it. We`ve got to applaud him for that and it proved to be the crucial goal. "Apart from that I thought he was excellent and was a key part of a terrific defensive display."
