Bordeaux beat Club Brugge 4-0 in the first round of group matches, while Newcastle were held to a goalless draw in Madeira by Maritimo.

Bordeaux manager, Francis Gillot, believes Alan Pardew’s team is the strongest in their Europa League group.

Francis Gillot: “It’s an exciting match in prospect.

“There will be a lot of people in the stadium, and I think Newcastle are the best team in the group.

“They’ve got a fantastic stadium, and there’s a lot of passion here. I hope my players can meet the challenge.

“It’s fantastic for my players to play here. It’ll be a magical occasion – England is the home of football. I hope there’s a lot of passion.

“We’ve come here to win the game and not just make up the numbers.

“I think the most important game is always the next game.”
