The midfielder ended the reserves’ 2-1 win over Norwich City on Monday in Willie Donachie’s back four.
Willie Donachie: “I was pleased for Gael.
“His attitude’s always good.
“He always wants to work and improve. He had a very good game.
“He actually ended the game as a central defender, and dealt with everything really well.
“That shows his enthusiasm. He’s small, but he can jump. He did well.”
Alan Pardew: “In and around the first team, he’s been terrific.
“We’re chuffed with him, but we can’t expect him to play the next 17 games for us."
