Beye feels for fans

Habib Beye has admitted that Newcastle's supporters 'deserve better' following last season's disappointment. The Magpies dropped out of English football's top tier at the end of last term and Mike Ashley has still not been able to sell the club. Newcastle also remain without a permanent manager as they approach the start of the 2009/10 Championship campaign. 4,000 fans nevertheless made the trip to Darlington over the weekend to watch Newcastle record a 7-2 victory and Beye was delighted with the backing the team received. The defender, who has been linked with a move away from St James' Park, believes the players must take more responsibility and give something back to the supporters. "The fans were brilliant at Darlington," Beye told the Evening Chronicle. "I feel for them because they deserve better, much, much better. "They need to know what the future is at this club, and it must be terribly hard for them. "The fans were better than us last season. "But it's important to have a good relationship between the fans and the players. "We will always try to communicate with them. They are brilliant."
