Betting Suspended As Hughton Position In Doubt

Betting was suspended yesterday on the next Premiership manager to be sacked, amid speculation that Chris Hughton's future is in doubt. Mike Ashley released a statement shortly after the final whistle against Arsenal which insisted Hughton’s position was safe and that “contract negotiations resume at the end of the year”. This led to suggestions of a “vote of confidence” but the bookies are not so sure. United have allegedly dismissed talk that former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Pardew was Mike Ashley's target, although it has not been done through official channels. Has Pardew been approached? He played it down and wouldn't say either way. Chris Hughton: “It’s about winning as many games as I can. “It’s a massive game for us on Sunday against Sunderland, and that is all we’re talking about between now and then. “We get on with the job. “My understanding is that I am manager of this football club. I’m proud of that and looking forward to a big derby game. “Re any statements, you need to speak to the club.”
