Best Is Back But Chances Are Going To Be Slim

Leon Best is fit again following an injury-plagued start to the season, but he will be at the back of the queue behind Andy Carroll, Shola Ameobi, Peter Lovenkrands and Nile Ranger. The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international ruptured ankle ligaments on the eve of his first season in the top-flight and has yet to make an appearance for the Magpies. Chris Hughton has already suggested Best could go out on loan, as we already have four players fighting for the one striker's spot in the team, now the boss has gone for the 4-5-1 formation. Best: "I've had an injection at the back of my ankle and I was out running on Tuesday for a little bit. "The injury wasn't on my mind at all and now I'm aiming to train sometime next week. "I was devastated because I'd started pre-season well and scored a couple of goals, but you just have to get on with it. "These things happen in life and you've got to keep on going. I'm still here and still breathing, so I've just got to put it behind me and get fit again. "I still need to prove myself and I've not done it yet. Hopefully, given the chance, I will do."
