Beardsley backs Newcastle strike Carroll to lead out England at the 2018 World Cup

Peter Beardsley admitted it would be 'incredible' if Newcastle striker Andy Carroll ran out onto the turf at St James' Park during the 2018 World Cup as England's No 9.[LNB]Beardsley, who represented England at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, said Carroll had the talent to lead this country's strike force for years to come after watching him score a terrific hat-trick in the 6-0 drubbing of Aston Villa lat Sunday.[LNB]'It would be incredible and from what we've seen so far you wouldn't bet against it and I think he's been outstanding,' said the former Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton midfielder.[LNB] Flying: Andy Carroll is the main in form after scoring a hat-trick against Aston Villa[LNB]'We brought him in as a schoolboy as a left-back and Kenny Wharton converted him to a centre-forward.
