Bassong out of Villa game

The Football Association have rejected Newcastle United's appeal regarding defender Sebastien Bassong's red card against Fulham. The Frenchman will now be suspended for the crucial last game of the season away at Aston Villa. The centre-half appeared to tug on Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara's shirt as the frontman went through on goal thus denying him what the FA described as an 'obvious goal-scoring opportunity'. Referee Howard Webb brandished a straight red card for the centre-back in the 60th minute with Newcastle already trailing 1-0. The game eventually ended in defeat for Alan Shearer's side and they must now better Hull City's result - against Manchester United - on Sunday if they are to survive.
