Barton-Cattermole Battle? What Were You Watching Bob?

Former Toon skipper Bob Moncur says the key battle of the derby was between Joey Barton and Lee Cattermole ... but Barton was placed on the wing and they didn't cross swords all game. That job was left to Kevin Nolan to wind-up the Mackem skipper, and he did it for as long as Cattermole was on the park - constantly saying in Cattermole's ear: "What's the score? Eh eh eh?" Bob Moncur: “Before the game it has the makings of the draw in my opinion, but Hughton obviously had some key battles in mind. “The midfield battle between Joey Barton and Lee Cattermole was key and Barton won it by the length of the field. “Then the tussle between Titus Bramble and Andy Carroll would have been on his mind, but Big Andy was dragging him round and came out on top before Bramble was sent off. “That really was one of the differences on the day – if not the main difference – because it gave everybody else the required space. “I was speaking to Stan Anderson before the game who asked me what he was like. “I told him he was a bit raw still, but certainly has the makings of an international-class striker. “He just takes the pushing and shoving and rises above it all, reveling in the battle.”
