Barton Wants French Stay

Joey Barton has told reporters he would like to make his loan switch to Marseille a permanent deal and end his turbulent period at Queens Park Rangers.

Barton has been charged with violent conduct on three separate occasions  by the FA. First, for an assault on Ousmane Dabo, which Barton also received a four-month suspended sentence for while at Manchester City, then again in 2010 after punching Morten Gamst Pedersen in the stomach, and a third time for attacking three players on the final day of last season.

Joey Barton: “I still have a lot of respect for my team-mates.

“I do not play for money, but for my club. If I were the one to decide, I would stay at Marseille."

The midfielder is still contracted to QPR and is on the books at the West London club until 2015.

But Chief Executive Phillip Beard has revealed they are considering selling Barton to Marseille if the French club can match the player’s value.
