After six months battling through a painstaking rehabilitation programme following foot surgery, Joey Barton returned to the first-team fold towards the end of the campaign. Joey Barton: "Having had injuries and working so hard to get fit you don't really want to let that go, only to have to do it all again. "I've already done two pre-seasons this year so I want to keep my fitness levels up over the summer. "I know I'll have to go through it all again in July but I want to hit the ground running. "Because of that I'll probably just chill out, have a few games of golf, spend some time with my family and friends and just look forward to getting a flying start in the Premier League next year. "I really enjoyed coming back in towards the end of the season and it was nice to play a part. "All the hard work had been done by that stage, but, for me, it did me the world of good both physically and mentally to be part of the group and feel strong within myself."
