Barton Promised Massive Windfall

28 August 2011 11:55
Joey Barton was lured to QPR by the promise of a six-figure bonus if he helps keep them in the Premier League. Despite rumours he was given a deal of £75,000 per week, the midfielder is on the same £60,000-a-week wages he had at Newcastle. However there is a safety jackpot, of allegedly half-a-million, if QPR avoid the drop into the Championship. Barton told press yesterday he joined the Hoops because "they are showing ambition" ... obviously getting a dig at Mike Ashley ... who he accused of "lacking ambition because he won't bring in top players". He was fined £120,000 (two weeks wages, the maximum for a Premiership player) for making comments on Twitter. Barton threatened to "spill the beans" on how Newcastle was being run, and we all wait with bated breath for his next Tweet.
