Barton makes his peace
JOEY BARTON has claimed that he has made his peace with former Newcastle United manager Alan Shearer following their bust-up last season.[LNB] Shearer was incensed when Barton was sent off for a twofooted sliding challenge on Xabi Alonso in the Magpies 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.[LNB] The incident led to a sending off and three match suspension for the controversial midfielder. He missed the final three games of their doomed campaign.[LNB] Following a reported dressing room confrontation after the game, Shearer announced Bartons suspension from the club and hinted strongly that if he were to remain as manager, Barton had no future at St James Park.[LNB] But relations between the pair have thawed slightly during the summer after they bumped into one another at a race meeting, leading Barton to claim that they have put their differences behind them.[LNB] With grown men in competitive sport there is going to be a clash of personalities,[LNB] noted Barton who is sidelined following surgery to his foot.[LNB] Emotions were running high and Alan was disappointed; no-one was more disappointed than I was that I had taken myself out of the equation by getting sent off stupidly.[LNB] Things went on in the dressing room and its well documented certain things were said. Weve both seen each other since and weve both been very civil about it.[LNB] Im fine with it, Ive got a lot of respect for Alan.[LNB] I was never going to get in a war of words with him, I have too much respect for him. We had a disagreement but we are both grown men and you get on with it. Nothing was said that anyone was going to lose sleep over.[LNB] Shearer remains the leading candidate to be installed as Newcastle manager if Barry Moat buys the club from current owner Mike Ashley.[LNB]
