The Spanish giants are being linked with a surprise swoop for Cabaye after he impressed in Euro 2012.
Alan Pardew said of his star midfielder prior to the competition: "I hope Yohan plays well ... but not TOO well."
Cabaye only arrived at St James' Park from Lille last summer for a fee of £4.3million.
Pardew has asked Ashley to keep his star players this summer, while Cabaye himself has urged the board not to cash in on the likes of Demba Ba.
It is understood Barca could offer £8million, although I'm sure Ashley would be thinking in the region of £12million.
