At Least One Toon Player Will Be Involved In Europa League!

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright wants a quick answer from Newcastle United regarding the availability of Mehdi Abeid.

The French youngster has failed to make the expected impression at St James' Park since arriving in 2011 and reports have said he will be shown the door this summer.

St Johnstone are interested in a permanent deal for Abeid after he spent the second half of last season on loan in Scotland but they have yet to be told if they will be able to sign the former Lens player.

Tim Krul backed Alan Pardew yesterday in saying Newcastle are better off without European football ... and we didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Such ambition (or lack of it) defies belief!

Wright is picking his squad for their Europa League second round qualifiers against either Crusaders or Rosenborg later in July.

Wright said in the Daily Record: "Contrary to some reports, Mehdi has not been released. We need an answer soon.

"We would want to have him up to speed for the Europa League."
