Ashley's shock return to Toon as Shay is Given green light to sign for City

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has made a shock return to Tyneside and is expected to give the thumbs-up to Shay Given's move to Manchester City. Ashley has not been seen at St James's Park since sacking Kevin Keegan but the billaionaire businessman, who has failed in his bid to sell the troubled club, arrived at the training ground on Monday to meet boss Joe Kinnear and managing director Derek Llambias. Manchester City have tabled an£8 million bid for Ireland Number One Given, who is unlikely to play when Newcastle travel to play City at Eastlands on Wednesday night. Newcastle are holding out for twice that amount and have asked City boss Mark Hughes to part company with Michael Johnson or Nedum Onuoha but he is refusing to release the pair as part of the deal. Kinnear says he is close to completing the signing of Toulouse right-back Albin Ebondo who has had talks with Newcastle this week.   More...
