Ashley wants to avoid auction

Sky Sports News sources understand that Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley will not become embroiled in an auction as he looks to sell the club. Ashley slapped a £100million price tag on the club on Monday and has stated that whoever offers the said amount first will get the club. The Magpies owner is desperate for a quick sale and would want to avoid a bidding war at all costs as he looks to end his disastrous spell at the helm. Ashley is set to lose out on £35million after he bought the club for around £135million just two years ago. The increased uncertainty over the club's future has meant that Ashley has become reluctant to appoint a permanent manager despite Alan Shearer being the fans and the player's number one choice. The former Toon striker is said to be ready to commit his long-term future to the club but Ashley is reluctant make any sort of move which would commit future owners to contracts over which they had no say.
