Alan Pardew is hopeful of a breakthrough in contract talks with a trio of his Newcastle United players after meeting owner Mike Ashley.

Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias spent several hours at the club’s training ground yesterday.

Pardew wants to extend the contracts of captain Fabricio Coloccini, Danny Simpson and Danny Guthrie.

Alan Pardew: “We’ve got the contracts on the agenda.

“We’ve also got summer targets and the development group, which I think we need to improve.

“All this business hasn’t helped, because I want to keep focused on what we’re doing here.”
