Ashley Pops In To Drop A Bombshell

We hear that Mike Ashley made a flying visit to Tyneside today in his private helicopter, to sort out new contracts for players. According to the Mail, the Newcastle players will be "asked to take a pay cut if the club wins promotion to the Barclays Premier League". Well we believe they will be "asked to take a pay cut" even if the club does NOT win promotion! Daily Mail: "With owner Mike Ashley forced to pump another £10million into the club to get them through the season, the players, including the likes of Alan Smith and Kevin Nolan, are being offered extended deals for less money per year. "Nolan would be among the Newcastle players asked to take a pay cut. "The move could see an exodus of big name players although several are open to negotiation." Ashley says Newcastle are losing £500,000 per week, and players set to renew their contracts will be the ones hit.
