As Expected - Tiote Leaves Early

Cheick Tiote says the clash with Manchester United on Wednesday night to be his last before heading off to the African Cup of Nations in Guinea and Gabon.

He will join the Ivory Coast squad to be part of a pre-tournament training camp in Abu Dhabi.

Alan Pardew had been hoping to retain the services of Tiote and Senegal striker Demba Ba until January 15 – but that isn't going to happen.

But Pardew is keeping an eye on the situation surrounding Yaya and Koule Toure at Manchester City with Roberto Mancini in a battle with the Ivorians to hold on to the valuable pair until the middle of January.

Cheick Tiote: “Maybe after the Man United game, I will go.

“We have a training camp in Abu Dhabi and I may have to go to that.

“It is hard for me I want to play for my country and I want to stay here and play for Newcastle.

“I just hope we do well while I am away. We have some tough games and we need to start taking more points.

“We are really, really disappointed about what happened at Liverpool.

“I really don’t know what to say about it.

“We have lost a game we could have won.”
