Another Reason Why Redknapp Pleased He Didn't Sign For Ashley!

Harry Redknapp would not have had Mike Ashley's wishes when he swooped for former Toon skipper Scott Parker.

The Toon owner offered Redknapp the Toon manager's job before Kevin Keegan's return, but the Spurs boss said at the time: "There's something not right at that club (Newcastle)".

And he was right!

Ashley has told Alan Pardew he will not entertain any deals for players 30 years of age or older, because they have no "sell on value".

Yet, despite being linked with a number of top-flight clubs, 31-year-old Parker signed for Spurs in a £5million deal.

Since Parker's arrival, Tottenham have dropped just two points during a nine-match unbeaten run that has seen the London club rise to third in the Barclays Premier League table.

Harry Redknapp: "When you think about it, he was sitting there (at West Ham) all summer. He could have been nicked by anybody. I don't know how somebody else didn't sign him.

"I don't know (how no-one else signed him). It took three or four months to get him but we got him in the end and we are delighted to have him."
